Adjustable Weighted Vest Exercises - How To Make the Most of It

One way in which fitness minded people try to improve the effectiveness of their workouts is by using a weighted vest. Today, you can find a variety of  adjustabled  weighted  vests that you can buy and workout with. I’ve seen vests that range in weight from 20 pounds to over 120 lbs for those in great shape. The only question is, what kind of exercises can you do with them?

The way you use this equipment is the same as wearing a regular vest. You just strap it around your body tight, leaving the shoulders and arms free and mobile. This means that there really isn’t any effect on dumbbell exercises or other weight lifting workouts because your body’s own weight plays little to no role in the actual exercise.

The main effect of  adjustable  weighted  vests comes into play when you do bodyweight workouts or cardio exercises.

Let’s talk about strength training first: wearing a weight vest can help make any bodyweight exercise more difficult. Whether you need to hoist yourself up for a pull-up or a chin-up, to do squats or lunges, or push-ups. Wearing a vest can make all these exercises more difficult. A vest doesn’t work for ab exercises (even though they are bodyweight exercises) but this is the main exception to the rule.

For cardio workouts, a vest can come in handy. Running, walking, trekking, and so on can all be made much more intensive by wearing a vest around you. There are even special  adjustable  weighted  vests for swimming. Cardio workouts such as biking or using the elliptical are likely to be less suitable to do with a vest around you.

When you’re thinking about using such a vest ask yourself how much it will be right for you depending on the workouts you perform. If you feel that you can incorporate such a vest into your workouts then by all means, go ahead and get one. There are brands that are not expensive and you can find such vests in stores and online.

Make sure to not overdo things by strapping on too much weight. You have to take it easy and make sure that you’re performing each exercise correctly before rushing to pack on more weight. This is the main thing I have against these vests: people just go to extremes when trying to use these. Make sure this doesn’t happen to you.
